CHAPTER 4
Kipâs forehead puckered curiously. Amber never ceased to amaze him, and kept life interesting, but even he didnât have a clue where she was headed with this one. âHow can they get married on Christmas Eve if weâre stuck here?â
Her gaze cut to Jason. âHey, Moore. I know I had a lot to drink, but if Iâm not mistaken, didnât you tell Ellen she was going to hell because of her elfish ways during our drinking game last night?â
Jason frowned. âYes, and the irritating elf threatened to sue me if I started to preach at her.â
âExactly!â Ellen shot her a death glare, and Amber quickly amended, âNot that youâre irritating, Ellen. I just meant the Jason part.â Amber approached Jason and massaged his shoulders where he sat hunched over his smartphone. A broad grin spread across her lips. âAnd how exactly would you be able to do that, McPreachy?â
His eyes widened, and the first smile Kip had seen the entire weekend lit up Jasonâs face as he responded, âBecause Iâm an ordained minister in my church.â
âBingo!â Amber said, with a sparkle in her eyes. âLast time I checked, ordained ministers can perform weddings, can they not?â
âThat they can,â he responded, looking impressed.
Amber beamed, and Kip admitted she won big this time, and he couldnât be more proud of her. Those other guys were idiots to let her go just because she intimidated them. She was special. A rare gem among women, and any man would be lucky to call her his own.
âYou meanâ¦?â Samantha started to say but couldnât get the rest of the words out through her trembling lips.
âYes, Samantha Darling, I still get to make you my wife on the day you changed my life forever,â Nathan finished, and then kissed her soundly on the mouth.
Ellen cheered and clapped her hands.
Jason rolled his eyes and tossed back a shot.
While Kip stared at the most amazing woman heâd met in a long time, standing tall and proud and beautiful before him. His heart squeezed painfully, and he suddenly realized she made him want a hell of a lot more than friends-with-benefits from her. She made him want the gravy, and that scared the hell out of him. She had the capability of cutting him wide open and making him bleed far more deeply than his ex-wife ever had. He should walk away. No, he should run and never look back. Here he was afraid she might not want a one night stand, but now he was terrified sheâd never want anything more. Hell, he wasnât even sure what he really wanted either. He just knew he wanted her, and couldnât imagine letting her go anytime soon. He didnât know for sure what he was going to do about it, but he knew damn well where he was going to start.
She held out her hand. âTruce?â
He folded her hand in his much larger one and shook, but didnât let go as he responded, âCome on, friend. We have a wedding to plan.
